“Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain. For purple mountains’ majesty, above the fruited plain. America, America, God shed His grace on thee. And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”
In song, that prayer has been raised countless times over the decades by tens of thousands of Americans, generation after generation after generation. If there ever was an answered prayer, that one has certainly been the most exemplary. We have it all! Our poorest people would be among the rich in other lands. The price of one American dinner at a five-star restaurant could feed a starving Ethiopian boy for a month.
As spoiled as we are, we still want more. We want a better car, nicer golf clubs, and a bigger house. Our CD’s, TV, and movies blaspheme God with no limit. We put each other down in our homes because we don’t think we’re treated “fair”.
Yet God has sent a steady stream of His disciples to us for four hundred years. We have churches on almost every corner and Bibles all over the house. If God leveled Sodom and Gomorrah in a flash, what will become of us if we don’t heed the scriptural plea, "if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chr 7:14 NASB)
